Going to Lady Gaga Tonight in Charlotte! Woohoo!

I feel like a pre-adolescent kid...all excited as if I am going to my first concert. Lady Gaga came on the scene a few years ago and the world quickly took notice. It seems from what I can tell there are strong feelings about her one way and another. My friends, who BTW are mostly artists and MUSICIANS... really love her, like I do...or they hate her. I just don't get the hating stuff. Some say she is a Madonna wanna be...I don't think so ...this woman is a classically trained pianist...which is more preparation than Madonna had musically. Madonna was a trained dancer, not a singer and so to me...there is no comparison. Her showmanship is more like Cher, it's over the top, and I am so excited to go see :)

NOW, those of you that know me, know I have almost every Madonna CD up until about 2005 when I started listening to a wider variety of music. As much as I have listened to Madonna and probably know all the words to all the songs from the 90's... I never went to a Madonna concert. However, I have been to three Cher concerts and a multitude of other concerts in the past ten years. With Lady Gaga from the first time I saw her, I couldn't wait to go see her in concert! In fact, for this concert tonight, I discovered the show was coming in like Jan or Feb... and as soon as tickets were being sold... I contacted my friends from Charlotte to see if they wanted to go and YES we all decided to go and the plans were set. It seems like we have waited forever, having tix so far in advance and now the show is going to be tonight. Oh MY God...what to wear? LOL!

Some people probably do not know this, but there were tickets selling for as high as $800.! Mine was high enough...even being almost in the nose bleed section...we should have a good views from the angle we are at and of course there are teleprompters..no chance of getting a close up pic. This woman is an extremely talented woman; gifted singer pianist, dancer, organizer, marketeer, fashion icon, songwriter...and so much more..she is a show. She doesn't just stand in front of a mic and sing (which in itself, is hard enough) she creates a show...you will never forget and I can not wait to be part of the big MONSTER BALL!!! (and all you haters can just shut up, LOL!)

Me and my poker face...gonna have a good time to night....

yours truly,
Jeanee

Seven Oaks Art League Meeting Recap

Hello,

A few blogs back I had written about the art leagues starting back up and so much is going on in the art community that it is hard to keep up with who's who! Case in point; I stated June Tucerella as President for SOAL. I was wrong; she is no longer President in fact, now residing in the President's chair is Donna Gore, who btw was our first President, when the league originally started.

We had a very lively speaker at this past meeting; an artist I had never met before, but one I hope to get to know better as time goes on. I believe her name is Jennifer Renee. She hails from New Orleans and was there during the Hurricane Katrina disaster. She gave us a lively narrative punctured with laughter and big smiles about the times there and what it was like growing up there and how things had changed and even how it changed her work. At first she relocated to DC and then they eventually found their way to Columbia, SC.

Jennifer does wonderful colorful lively work known as reverse painting on glass. It's actually quite a process; as she is painting blind from the backside, so everything that goes on last has to go on first. You sign it first and then build the layers up backwards. Her work is very beautiful and I encourage you to see her website.

Not only does she do paintings, she also does assemblages and recycled material or found object sculptures. It's apparent listening to Jennifer that she has one of the most creative minds I have encountered in a very long time and it was a joy to listen to her tell us all about work she is doing with used tvs and doors. She had so many ideas for these works and what the entire series will be; it was quite impressive.

Anyway, .... it was truly refreshing and inspirational.

SOAL meets every Third Thursday of the month and our next meeting will be held at the 7oaks park rec center on Oct 21 at 630 pm. From Oct 21 to the Nov meeting I will have a few pieces of art on the walls at The Seven Oaks Recreation Center. So if you are one that goes by this park which is located just off St Andrews Rd and Piney Grove... check out the walls.

Yours Truly;
Jean Bourque

Seven Oaks Art League Meets Thurs Sept 16th

Seven Oaks Art League Meetings
start back up this Thursday Sept. 16th.

The meetings are held every third Thursday of the month at the Seven Oaks Recreation Center at 630PM. June Tucarella is current President of the Art League. As some of you may know I was a former President of this art league. I really like this league as the people are real friendly and its in a nice location. The meetings are open to all artists and offer a monthly program with a speaker every month. They now have a website and offer educational and showing opportunities for the members. You may go as a guest for your first meeting to see if you enjoy it and want to join the group.
