Ahhh... it's the month of June and it's one of my favorite month's of the year. My childhood memories of school letting out in June, usually on or near the first day of summer, followed by vacations and my birthday... always make me nostalgic for being a kid. Silly, perhaps but as middle age dots my face with odd colors and strange new wrinkles... a woman just can't help but long for those carefree (and wrinkle free) childhood days. Painting often takes me to the joys of childhood and I am carefree.... I dance like no one is watching!

In the past month, I have painted to a lot of great musicians and been in several art shows. At the Art Bar, I did the art show Memorial weekend and then painted live to C. Neil Scott and Matt Falter, that was magic! I also had the opportunity to paint with them the first week in June at Conundrum Music Hall and to Lucas Sam improv rock act. It was all so much fun!

Art Bar Columbia SC to live music by
C. Neil Scott and Matt Falter

This painting seems nostalgic to me as well. One of the first real pieces of art I actually purchased for myself was a Monet. I enjoyed his style and then sought lessons in painting impressionism in oil paints. For me this painting inspired by very free form music is one of the best impressionistic landscape pieces I have ever done... without looking at a scene or a photo. The spirit of the music guided me to the freedom found in an impressionistic landscape created entirely from my memory with no pictorial references.

Matt Falter and C Neil Scott have posted numerous videos on youtube with me creating this painting and additional videos where I painted to their music again at Conundrum.

Catch you later my friends....
much love

Painting to Jackaroe Band at Utopia tonight!

It's Julia Beckham's birthday and her band Jackaroe will be playing at Utopia on Rosewood Dr. in Columbia tonight! The fun starts at 830 and goes until 11 ish! I will be painting live to their music. The band wants to do a live recording and needs everybody to come out and show their love in honor of Julia's birthday!

These are just two of the paintings I have painted to their music in the past few months. The top one was done at Utopia on St. Patricks Day and the brightly colored one was done at The Music Fest at Art Bar July 4th weekend along with the Jackaroe band and finished to the Stillhouse band.

If you have never heard the Jackaroe band, it's time you did!

Hope to see you all there!

Yours truly,
Jean Bourque

Painted three nights in a row to Live Music

LIVE MUSIC PAINTING

I painted three nights in a row and the first two nights sold the art. I didn’t have a camera or a photographer of my own any of these nights and as far as I can tell no one has posted any photos of any of this weekend’s artwork. The first night’s painting was at Tapp's Art Center during the First Thursday event to Lauren Streeter and Michael Mahoney live. I named it “Lauren Sings” and this is pictured above and is on deposit. The second night, I sold on the spot so do not have a photo at all. The new owners agreed to email me a picture, but so far that has not happened. I named that one "Cherry" and I painted it to the DUBA Band.

Last night, late night at the Art Bar, I did one of the best paintings of my career judging by viewer reaction. It is a brightly colored piece and I had several people make offers and received many compliments! The Jackaroe band that I started the painting to finished their gig before the painting was done and lucky for me Jennifer McCallister and Michael Mahoney of the Stillhouse band were playing next and agreed to let me continue painting through out their set. Just minutes before their set ended I finished it! Several people really want it especially the Jackaroe band and I really want them to have it. Since I didn’t have a photographer last night, I was happy to take it home so I could document it’s existence. Based on discussions at the Art Bar with various people, this piece will be gone soon.

I may even do prints on that one, since it was so well received.

much love and peace....
