Open Studios May 3 & 4 in Free Times & The State

I have been posting this one for a while. This weekend is finally the BIG event you all have been waiting for:

OPEN STUDIOS TOUR ALL OVER COLUMBIA SC AND IRMO, TOO.

SUN. MAY 4TH

SEE ARTISTS AT WORK AND IN THEIR OWN ENVIRONMENTS, WATCH PAINTERS PAINT AND SCULPTORS SCULPT... AND POTTERS THROUGH SOME CLAY ON THE WHEEL..

It is a fun filled weekend for all. See the State newspaper or the Free Times (free) newspaper for the details and locations. Be sure not to miss the Back Porch Studios , just one block down from Columbia Place mall (formerly Columbia Mall) and in the same plaza as "Very's Philly Restaurant; right on Two Notch Rd. There will be numerous artists showing at this location and if you love Impressionistic or Realistic Landscapes there are many here to choose from. Rounding out the mix of art and artists are also abstracts, collage, palms and palmettos, photography, giclees, clay pots, clay abstract art plates, (Note to self: got to get one of those!) face jogs, iconic work, decorative, functional and just off the wall art!!!! DON'T MISS THIS ONE!!!!

Art Events:

On Saturday April 12th, the Elmwood Park Tour of Homes will show the work of Alicia Leeke and Ellen Baskins and other artists also.

On Saturday April 19th, the West Columbia 2nd Annual Riverwalk Music Festival will be held in the parking lot across from Orleans Restaurant beside the park at the Gervais St. bridge which connects Columbia with West Columbia. Artists participating are Jean Ehler of Hillview Art and Ellin Baskins of West Columbia, along with other visual artists. The event will run from 2 to 9 PM. come out for good music and good art at the Riverwalk in West Columbia SC.

On Sunday April 20th, The Back Porch Studios on 6729 Ste E Two Notch Rd. Columbia, SC will be hosting a Welcome Reception to Ilona Royce Smithken, NYC and Provincetown, MA artist. (Ilona is the red head in the photo, I am the one with the hat) Ilona was star of the "Painting with Ilona" and "Ilona's Palette" SCETV shows which aired here in SC. We have the regular group of "Back Porch Painters" along with the "Back Porch Studio Potters" and Sculptors. We will honor our Guest of Honor and have her artwork available for sale as well as the artwork of our group artists during the reception. Come on out Sunday April 20th from 3-5 PM and meet the world famous Ilona!!! The event is sponsored by impressionistic artist and photographer Sandra Stork Phaup.

Ilona Royce Smithken will be teaching Oil Painting Impressionism classes at the home of Sandra Phaup. Classes run for 2 weeks and you can pick one week, two weeks or whatever days will work for you. See SC Artists at Work Open Studios May 3 & 4

Many of you have heard the buzz by Wim Roefs of "if Art" Gallery on Lincoln St. Columbia SC. He has been working for all of us artists to create the Open Studios tour May 3 and May 4. It promises to be even more exciting than last year. So if you are not one of the studio artists; do pay close attention who will be where and map out your two day art feast!!!! It promises to be very entertaining and a true must see for Cola Town!!! All artists are in Columbia SC areas and that includes the outlining towns such as Balentine and Irmo, Harbison and West Columbia. Yours truly will be at the Back Porch Studio on Two Notch Rd just 2 blocks from the Columbia Place mall right near Very's Philly Steak Restaurant!! The ones with "!!" by their name are also located at the Back Porch Studios with Jean Bourque. (More addresses will follow at a future date!)

Back Porch Painters & Potters Studio

The Back Porch Studios will now be open every Tuesday to the public. Come see artists at work on Tuesdays from 11-2. The Back Porch Studios are located at 6729 Suite E Two Notch Rd. Columbia, SC near Very's Fine Restaurant about 2 blocks down from Columbia Place Mall in NE Columbia, SC.

We will host a reception for Ilona Royce Smithken Sun. April 20, 2008
from 3-5 PM.
