Seven Oaks Art League Meets Jan. 17th

JANUARY’S PROGRAM for Seven Oaks Art League in St. Andrews, Columbia, SC

We will meet at 7PM on Thursday, January 17, 2008. Our guest speaker will be Rachel Parker, a self-taught watercolorist. She has been drawing since she was a child and began painting in 2000. She comes from a family of artists. Her mother Gretchen Parker is an award-winning portrait artist. Her father is an award-winning photographer, so art must run in the family! She will share with us ideas about selling our artwork.

At our December holiday gathering, Barbie Mathis won the prize for her fabulous fake of Maxfield Parrish’s Ecstasy! It was a very tough decision as there were so many fabulously done fakes.

The SOAL Jan. 14-Feb.21 art show will feature work by Jean Bourque and Ingrid Carson.

Congratulations to SOAL Art Show Winners

Gail Cunningham has won first place in the Seven Oaks Art League 5th Annual Juried Show with her collage and watercolor painting on paper, "Koi Pond" also known as "Come into the Light..." in an elegant frame $650.00. Her website is at Bay Harbor Designs.

All Paintings and artwork are on show at the Seven Oaks Park on Leisure Lane; just off St. Andrews Rd. and Piney Grove in Columbia, SC. Most are for sale and will be displayed until May 31, 2007. Besides the artists listed here the other artists in the show are Suzanne Amodio, Donna Reid, Corey Ann Lacy, Birgul Sisler, Mary Monroe, Cathy Purdy, Tommy Thompson, Susan Hawfield, Chris Carlson, Betty Scott, Dale Bishop, June Tucarella, Barbie Mathis and Jean Bourque. Best of Show Winner was Melinda K. Smith, with "Glamorous Garlic" a watercolor on paper framed $300.; Second Place winner with a beautiful glass art work was won by Kakie Honig for her piece "Wabi Sabi" in the display cabinet at Seven Oaks Park for $250.; Third Place was won by Shirley Wright for "Olive Groves" a watercolor painting framed on paper $400.

The Carol Ann Rose Memorial Award was awarded to Donna Lynn Gore for her large watercolor collage on paper; "Mountains and Waters of Meditation" framed at $750.

Artista Vista at Nonnah's Part 2

This is continued from an earlier post discussing an evening of art at Nonnah's.

The wall across from from the entry; showed delicate yet detailed water scenes, which were very nicely rendered. Yet, I noticed something was different about them. Marcie Murray, explained to me these were watercolors on Fredrix watercolor canvases. For more info on these canvases click on the link. Her paintings were very peaceful and relaxing.

From across the room I spotted Donna Reid talking with Ingrid Carson. Ingrid had a variety of works ranging from her traditional oil paintings of landscapes to abstracts and collage paintings. I actually brought her luck; as she sold one of her abstracts while I spoke with her.

Maggie; the owner of Nonnah's walked through and was ready to return the rooms to a restaurant; with wine, desserts & dining. Then I spotted Jan Livingston; fashionable as always; I should have taken a picture. Her artwork was featuring brightly colored acrylic canvases. Some were abstract while others were impressionistic. They were all modern and brightly colored. I searched the web to see if I could find any of these; with no luck.

The Show at Noonah's will continue through the next two weeks. Stop in; take a look; there is enough variety here; so anyone should be able to find something they would love.
