Wrapping up the Year

It is amazing that another year has come and gone... 2012 literally flew by for me.
I was BUSY with all capital letters!

STUDIO NEWS The beginning of the year I opened an art studio for 6 months
in downtown Lexington SC. It was a very educational experience and I enjoyed
it immensely. I coordinated an Art Opening and provided several musical guests
that performed and then I painted live for the guests at the event to live music by
Bob Kilgore.

The studio coordinated an Art Opening during the Wine Walk in May.
We probably had over 1000 people come through the studio in a 3 hour time period.
The Wine Walk is set up with other Lexington businesses and all the businesses provide
wine to the guests.

Mid year. I moved my art equipment from the studio  to my house near downtown
Columbia, SC.  It was nice to have a special space to create. While I was there I was
able to get an additional studio easel and a studio desk that adjust with a slant.
(Lots of fun to draw on a slanted desk.)

This year, there have been several people that have sent their found objects and
recyclables to me and I want to give everyone of these people a special thank you.

GALLERY NEWS

Railroad Gallery Evans St. Florence, SC closed their doors in November. The building the gallery was in had no a/c or heat. Art Trail Gallery closed their original Florence, SC location and reopened in November at their newly revamped location on Evans St. Just a block down, on the same side of the street, from the Railroad Junction Gallery location. I have been at both throughout 2012, still showing at Art Trail Gallery.

Bob Doster's Gallery and Studio Lancaster SC participated in their Christmas Show.

Forest Acres Fine Art Center at Theatre Rowe Richland Mall Columbia SC I showed a few pieces early in the year and painted live to the Dick Goodwin band during two different talent evening events. In SAugust I was invited to be the solo visual artist in both windows. I have 25 works of art there and they will be there until Jan. 4, 2013. CLASSES and a GALLERY HOLIDAY CHRISTMAS SHOW

I have always been fascinated with sculptures and assemblage as well as mixed media and fiber arts.
This year I took an 8 hour workshop on Steel Sculpture at Bob Doster's studio in Lancaster, SC
They held a big Christmas Grand Opening Art Event at the gallery and I have several pieces there
all are smaller pieces and I have prints too. See Bob or Cherry Doster if interested in any of those.

The Midlands Clay Arts Society’s 12th Annual Holiday Sale features one-of-a-kind, handmade gifts by South Carolina based ceramic artists. It is a much anticipated opportunity to view and purchase unique, original, works of art, from whimsical sculptures to classic functional pieces, decorative accessories, and everything in between.

The event takes place at Gallery 80808 at 808 Lady Street, Columbia SC 29201. The sale takes place over four days: Thursday, November 29, 12pm-8pm; Friday, November 30, 12pm-8pm; Saturday, December 1, 12pm-4pm; and Sunday, December 2, 12pm-4pm. Admission is free; cash and checks only are accepted.

An opening reception will be held at Gallery 80808 from 5pm to 8pm on Thursday, November 29. The public is invited.

MCAS was organized in 1987 to foster fellowship, education and creativity among local potters and clay artists and to promote appreciation of all things made from clay.

CAMPSTEP FESTIVAL is SEEKING ARTISTS, PHOTOGRAPHERS, SCULPTORS, JEWELRY MAKERS, CANDLE MAKERS, GLASS ART AND PROFESSIONAL CRAFTERS  TO SHOW AND SELL AT CAMPSTEP FESTIVAL an electronica dance music and arts festival! Friday Oct. 26th 5-9pm and all day Saturday Oct 27th noon to 9pm for only $40. Reserve your spot now, deadline Oct 12th. 

                                  

CAMPSTEP WILL provide a 10x10 space for you to display and sell your art. You will need your own display equipment to show your work. A canopy is suggested although not required.  Suggested items for showing table, chair(s) easels, display screens, mat and print racks, floor mat, trash bag, art and prints that you want to sell. All items should be priced in the event you are away from your booth or get tied up with another customer and someone else needs to help.  Bring extra wire and cutters for hanging your artwork and if you plan to be there in the evenings bring some portable battery or solar operated lighting. Because this will be held in late October we could have cold weather especially once the sun goes down; so we suggest you dress in layers and bring extra clothes in the event of a cold evening. Set up is one hour before showtime. When you arrive for the first time please check in, so we can show you were your location is.

Just Saturday Oct 27th noon to 9pm with set up at 11am Fee $30.

Show Your Art on Fridays at Rhythm on the River  2012 Fall Series
Starts Sept . 7th to Oct. 5, 2012. Deadline to sign up for Sept 7th or the 5 week special for the price of 4 weeks ($60, instead of $75.) is Sept. 2 postmark.
Five weeks Every Friday
Set up starts at  4:00 pm, Start showing and selling after set up; 5:00 til 9PM. Must be
set up by 6PM at the latest. Music begins at 6pm. Art Show in your own booth. You must bring your set up which typically includes a canopy, display walls, display stands, table and chair, portable battery operated lights or lantern and possibly extra easels. Each space will be approx. 10x10 ft. You may show your Fine Art, photography and prints. Each show is $15. per a space, per a date or get the 5 WEEK SPECIAL for $60. Many of you know that I have been painting to live music, poetry and at a variety of events over the last 2 and half years. Now I have a significant amount of interesting stories and photos to share as well as art for sale. BOOKING INFO FOR FESTIVALS, BARS, MUSEUMS, GALLERIES and  Other VENUES


If you are a venue or a festival and would like to book me as part of your event's line up of entertainment please contact me Jean Bourque provide your full contact info, name of business and event name (if there is one) and phone numbers as well as websites. Please detail what you have in mind and the date (s). Provide as much information as possible so I can determine if it fits in my schedule and what expenses I may incur to do the event and give you an accurate quote rate. 


BOOKING INFO FOR MUSICIANS AND OTHER PERFORMERS

If you are a musician and would like to book me; when you book your gig add my act into your proposal and include my fee. Contact me before you make a proposal to verify if the date is good with me and to get a rate. If it is for a festival, many times I can book myself and they will pay me direct, in that case just contact me with the festival info. Due to every gig being in a different location, varying mileage, various amounts of time, I must quote each gig on a one by one basis. In the case of a standing gig weekly, same place, same band I could quote a flat rate.

Ahhh... it's the month of June and it's one of my favorite month's of the year. My childhood memories of school letting out in June, usually on or near the first day of summer, followed by vacations and my birthday... always make me nostalgic for being a kid. Silly, perhaps but as middle age dots my face with odd colors and strange new wrinkles... a woman just can't help but long for those carefree (and wrinkle free) childhood days. Painting often takes me to the joys of childhood and I am carefree.... I dance like no one is watching!

In the past month, I have painted to a lot of great musicians and been in several art shows. At the Art Bar, I did the art show Memorial weekend and then painted live to C. Neil Scott and Matt Falter, that was magic! I also had the opportunity to paint with them the first week in June at Conundrum Music Hall and to Lucas Sam improv rock act. It was all so much fun!

This painting seems nostalgic to me as well. One of the first real pieces of art I actually purchased for myself was a Monet. I enjoyed his style and then sought lessons in painting impressionism in oil paints. For me this painting inspired by very free form music is one of the best impressionistic landscape pieces I have ever done... without looking at a scene or a photo. The spirit of the music guided me to the freedom found in an impressionistic landscape created entirely from my memory with no pictorial references.

Matt Falter and C Neil Scott have posted numerous videos on youtube with me creating this painting and additional videos where I painted to their music again at Conundrum.
