Damian Norwood at Hookah Bar Sat. 3/27 at 10PM

Playing good ole rock n roll (cover tunes) is the sound you'll hear when u listen to Damian Norwood. He played CCR and Nirvana just the way they should be played. A native of Clinton, SC I had the opportunity to hear him sing and play his acoustic guitar at the Puddlin Duck near Spring Valley in Northeast Columbia, this past Wednesday evening, which happened to be St. Patrick's Day! Arriving late as I often do, I missed his introduction and also missed the St. Patrick's dinner at the Puddle Duck since their kitchen had already closed. My understanding is he played 2 hours straight through with no break.

Last Sunday, I had a little "Mad Hatter" gathering at my art studio and several friends had seen and heard Damian Norwood, the night before at the Hookah Bar. Their musical taste is diverse as my own and they often attend many of the same musical events I attend. So, trusting their judgement I checked all my events and found where he was playing next.

Not only is he a talented singer and guitar player he is also an interesting conversationalist, peppering his words with humor throughout the night. He told a story about playing at The Hookah Bar (a private club) into the wee hours on Sunday morning. After which, his girlfriend wanted to go to church, a Catholic Church with all the kneeling, standing and sitting. Somehow, he made it through the service without losing his breakfast or his religion. He noticed a little girl in front of them that kept turning around looking at him. He said he was just waiting for her to say, "You smell like my drunk Uncle."

At any rate, he will be playing again at The Hookah Bar next Saturday March 27th starting at 10 pm to 1 am. Yes, it is a private club, just pay the door charge and tell the people at the door, you are the guests of Jeanee Bourque and come on in! The Hookah Bar is located at 803 Sumter St. Columbia, over the Beezer Sandwich Shop and across from USC. One of the unique factors of the Hookah Bar is that they have an oxygen bar, with a variety of unique flavors. You should try it, out.

Glenforest School presents the Palmetto Master Singers. For a sample of their music, click on the name of the group. They have performed all over the world and this performance will include music from Bach to Broadway to the Beatles.

The Art Show and Sale will be starting at 6PM Friday November 16th. We will have a wide selection of art to choose from including award winning local artists. Participating artists include: Barbie Mathis, (the painting shown here is "Aiken Splendor" by Barbie Mathis), Jean Bourque, Pat Stone, Janet Kozachek, and Christy Aitken. We will also have a charcoal sketch artist Jean Ehler so you can get your portrait sketched before the Palmetto MasterSingers perform, during intermission or later during the dessert party. Other artists wil be announced soon.

All proceeds benefit the schools Arts Program. The school is located at 1041 Harbor Dr West Columbia, SC. After the performance, Glenforest will host a “Meet the Masters” dessert reception and the art sale will continue to run during this time. Vista Lights Rock & a Hard Place Music Nov. 15th

On Thur, Nov 15th the Columbia Regional Visitors Center in collaboration with the Christopher Conner Foundation, the SC Tobacco Collaborative, the Musicians and Songwriters Guild of SC, Vaudevillian Imaging and MacDougall's Restaurant & Bar will host an outdoor concert during the Vista Lights event. The concert is to promote the Rock 'N a Hard Place – Musicians for a Smoke-Free SC. The concert will take place outside the Columbia Regional Visitors Center, at 1101 Lincoln St. from 5 p.m. and is expected to last until 11 p.m. The Rock 'N a Hard Place hosts a diverse compilation of musicians that call SC home. The purpose is to increase public awareness of the rights of all workers, including musicians, to work in smoke-free environments. Musicians include The South, Kelly Cheats, Lucas War Hero, Will Erikson, The Vaughn Morris Duo, McKenzie Eddy, Jason Dalton, Chris Smith of Sunshone Still, Brian Sansbury, and the Daniel Kyre Band. Calendars will be available during the event for a suggested donation of $10. Artists will autograph calendars and proceeds will benefit the Christopher Conner Foundation and the SC Tobacco Collaborative. At 10:30 p.m. MacDougall's will host a non-smoking after-party featuring The Movement Acoustic.

While on Lincoln St. stop by the newest gallery space in town at 1213 Lincoln St. Columbia SC and see the work of 14 artists all members of The Artists Round Table. That's Nov. 15th, next Thursday, make it a night to remember!
