Show Your Art on Fridays at Rhythm on the River  2012 Fall Series
Starts Sept . 7th to Oct. 5, 2012. Deadline to sign up for Sept 7th or the 5 week special for the price of 4 weeks ($60, instead of $75.) is Sept. 2 postmark.
Five weeks Every Friday
Set up starts at  4:00 pm, Start showing and selling after set up; 5:00 til 9PM. Must be
set up by 6PM at the latest. Music begins at 6pm. Art Show in your own booth. You must bring your set up which typically includes a canopy, display walls, display stands, table and chair, portable battery operated lights or lantern and possibly extra easels. Each space will be approx. 10x10 ft. You may show your Fine Art, photography and prints. Each show is $15. per a space, per a date or get the 5 WEEK SPECIAL for $60. (5 wks for the price of 4) deadline 9/2/12

Please email with ROR in subject line your name, address, your best phone number preferably a cell number (during the event we may need to locate you) and website or link to your art images to Jean BourQue and advise if you want the 5 week special $60. (saves $15.)  or list the dates you would prefer, when I receive your payment I will confirm. Print out and send a copy of your emailed note along with your payment written to Jean Bourque via US Mail by Sept. 2, 2012 to Jean Bourque, ROR ART Show, PO Box 4478, W. Columbia, SC  29171 Only 7 spaces left, so sign up now. Rain location will be at Jillian's on Gervais St. Columbia, therefore we will be unable to issue refunds.

When you arrive at the site on the day of your show; please arrive an hour early but no earlier than 330pm. We will be setting up in the main parking lot and only have a limited area where we can set up so please check in when you arrive. I will be at all the events except the opening day. Brian Pyle, is the Art Director and he will have be at all 5 shows. He will have a list of the artists and will show you where to set up. If Brian is not at his booth, when you arrive just call him at 803-220-7643.

Barbie Mathis Watercolor Classes at City Art

Award Winning artist Barbie Mathis will be teaching Painting Flowers in Watercolor at

Learn to how to paint colorful watercolor flowers while working from photo references. A variety of techniques for painting many kinds of flowers will be demonstrated for beginner and intermediate students. The instructor will show how to mix colors to paint every part of a flower including the blossoms, petals, leaves, stems, middles and backgrounds.

Many of you know that I have been painting to live music, poetry and at a variety of events over the last 2 and half years. Now I have a significant amount of interesting stories and photos to share as well as art for sale. If you are a venue or a festival and would like to book me as part of your event's line up of entertainment please contact me Jean Bourque provide your full contact info, name of business and event name (if there is one) and phone numbers as well as websites. Please detail what you have in mind and the date (s). Provide as much information as possible so I can determine if it fits in my schedule and what expenses I may incur to do the event and give you an accurate quote rate. 


BOOKING INFO FOR MUSICIANS AND OTHER PERFORMERS

If you are a musician and would like to book me; when you book your gig add my act into your proposal and include my fee. Contact me before you make a proposal to verify if the date is good with me and to get a rate. If it is for a festival, many times I can book myself and they will pay me direct, in that case just contact me with the festival info. Due to every gig being in a different location, varying mileage, various amounts of time, I must quote each gig on a one by one basis. In the case of a standing gig weekly, same place, same band I could quote a flat rate.

Ahhh... it's the month of June and it's one of my favorite month's of the year. My childhood memories of school letting out in June, usually on or near the first day of summer, followed by vacations and my birthday... always make me nostalgic for being a kid. Silly, perhaps but as middle age dots my face with odd colors and strange new wrinkles... a woman just can't help but long for those carefree (and wrinkle free) childhood days. Painting often takes me to the joys of childhood and I am carefree.... I dance like no one is watching!

In the past month, I have painted to a lot of great musicians and been in several art shows. At the Art Bar, I did the art show Memorial weekend and then painted live to C. Neil Scott and Matt Falter, that was magic! I also had the opportunity to paint with them the first week in June at Conundrum Music Hall and to Lucas Sam improv rock act. It was all so much fun!

This painting seems nostalgic to me as well. One of the first real pieces of art I actually purchased for myself was a Monet. I enjoyed his style and then sought lessons in painting impressionism in oil paints. For me this painting inspired by very free form music is one of the best impressionistic landscape pieces I have ever done... without looking at a scene or a photo. The spirit of the music guided me to the freedom found in an impressionistic landscape created entirely from my memory with no pictorial references.

Matt Falter and C Neil Scott have posted numerous videos on youtube with me creating this painting and additional videos where I painted to their music again at Conundrum.

Painted Live to DUBA at Buckaroo's

This Saturday evening, May 26, 2012 I found myself out at Lake Murray at a little night club on the water. Owners Jamie and Kristian allowed me to paint there last year and the one I created to the DUBA band ended up going home with them that night. I hadn't seen "Dear Heart" in close to a year as there were no cameras there that night. Mary Womble the bass player and singer in the Duba band asked them to bring it to Buckaroo's that evening,which they did. We hung "Dear Heart" behind the band while I painted and they played.

This was now the third time I painted at Buckaroo's and like the other two times, I noticed they have two different crowds, which I have named the early crowd and the late night crowd. When we arrived at 8PM there were only a handful of people on the back deck overlooking the Lake. There were a few boats docked and more people inside enjoying food in the restaurant. The first crowd departs about 10 and the second crowd arrives close to 1030PM. A lot of the folks with the first crowd had been at the DUBA bands performance the evening before at another Lake Murray bar and enjoyed it so much they came back for more.

The second crowd clearly had a lot more women then the first crowd. The women were all dancing and of course I was dancing too. I do what I call my Painting dance!  The ladies were out on the town for "Mommies Night Out". Everyone was having a great time dancing to cover songs by Pink, Adele, Cranberries and many other popular bands. The band played four sets and I created a 16x20 and 2 smaller paintings to the beat! Here is the larger painting I did to the music!

I was drinking Monster Total Zero while the crowd was enjoying drinks like the Dirty Monkey and as the night wore on it become evident that many were feeling no pain. Even so, there were no mishaps, as people got up on the stage and did their dances, no feel over or got tripped up. So it was a wonderful night and a great time was had by all!

Bob, Bear and Me at Homemade Genius Gallery

Saturday May 19th, I found myself in downtown Abbeville SC... at Ian Morris's place. It's a music studio, it's a gallery, it's an art studio, it's a stage and performance center and it is known as Homemade Genius!.The walls were covered with several different artists work including the owner/artist Ian Morris. The featured artist appeared to be Columbia artist Michael Krewjewski and a sprinkling of art by Columbia artist Cedric of Izms of Art. Several other artists work are on display as well.

That evening, I was there to paint to live music. Bob Kilgore and his brother Bear Kilgore having been building up a steady following of fans all over the country. Their blend of music and superior skills combine to create a full band sound with just the two of them. Bob on an acoustic guitar and Bear on electronic keyboard. During the performance, Bob's latest CD "Metamorphosis" was displayed visually with paintings created to various songs on the album. My own entry to the collection was "Meta" which had been painted to the CD at Tapp's Art Center during a Mind Gravy Poetry event this past Dec.

The art event also included poetry readings by various poets, reading their own works and words by Columbia poet John Starino and owner/poet Ian Morris. The interesting thing about this was it added another dimension to the music and the art in this environment. It was a very heady performance which the audience enjoyed heartily. I created a new work of art and named her "Meta II". Currently she is still a painting in progress, but here she is in all her glory.

Jeanee Live Music Painter at Conundrum April 13

VARIETY SHOW WITH COMEDY, MUSIC AND ART

Yours Truly, Jean BourQue will be painting live with the Runaway Jug Band at Conundrum Music Hall on Meeting St. W Columbia, SC on Friday April 13th. The venue will have an opening comedy act by Good Clean Fun and that will be followed by an hour and a half music and painting event.

Conundrum Music Hall is a great space with a wonderful sound system and cool vibes... come out and enjoy a night of fun. Casual dress in a relaxed atmosphere designed to showcase music. Plenty of parking, cover $5.

The Runaway Jug Band features lead singer, songwriter, and multiple instrumentalist Brad Sanders playing original music from his latest cd with a few selected covers, mostly Americana, light Rock, Folk and a touch of blues and bluegrass. Truly a versatile and very talented lead performer. He will be joined by brother Frank Sanders on Bass and Vocals.

TAG ARTISTS RECEPTION AT HOPF GALLERY APR 13TH

Would you like to be at an art show with a large assortment of art and artists? Well Friday the 13th, you will be in luck...

Trenholm Artists Guild Annual Group Art Show, features art work from their members in the upstairs gallery at HOPF on Devine St. in Columbia, SC. The show is currently running until April 20th.

This Friday the 13th... the HOPF gallery will be packed with the art league members and their fans and friends for a reception from 6-8PM. The awards will be announced at 6:30 pm.

You probably know many of the artist's if you have been following Columbia SC art events.
