Trenholm Art Guild meets Mon Jan. 9, 2012

TAG artists will reunite Monday Jan 9th, 2012 for the first meeting of the year. Meeting starts at 7 pm and informal socialize time prior to the meeting begins at 630PM. Please do not enter the park before 6PM. TAG is open to all visual artists in the greater Columbia, SC area. TAG meets the second Monday of every month now through June.

The guest for the meeting this month is: Roy Paschal.

Roy Paschal was born in South Carolina and is particularly appreciative of its diversity and natural beauty. The wide expanses of a low country marsh to the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains provide never-ending inspiration. As a boy Roy roamed these natural habitats searching for glimpses of wildlife and enjoying the sights and sounds of nature. To this day you can find Roy knee deep in a salt water marsh or hiking along a trail with his sketch pad or paints in hand. He is always looking for that special spot to glimpse the magic of nature especially enjoying and painting the diminishing sights being overtaken by ever-growing and expanding development and population. Roy retired in June 2008, after a 30-year career as a forensic artist.

Jerry Bridgers Photo and Ric Standridge Painting

Monday evening Feb. 11, 2008 the Trenholm Artists Guild had the TAG meeting. Our guest speaker was Ric Standridge from Greenville, SC. He told us many interesting stories about his days in NYC and finding his way back to SC. He has painted with many greats and near greats. He told us it's more creative to capture the spirit of our subject than to just copy it. Ric says he normally paints in oils to music. He didn't elaborate what type of music and we didn't have any music playing, but he painted anyway. One of our members Stacy Morgan was asked to model and she did. Her reward for being such a good model ...Ric gave her the painting!

Our photographer, Jerry Bridgers combined his photo manipulation skills with Ric's painting to create this image. It's not on the TAG website and I thought some may enjoy seeing it. For more pictures click on the TAG website link, above.

yours truly,
Jean Bourque

**********
Painting on the back porch... I will admit this week is definitely cooler (than last week) thank goodness. The group of paintings I have been working on are coming along well. I have just finished putting the final touches on my piece for the fair and am real excited about it.
Besides the Fair piece I have 5 others in process. Since I am painting on a bunch of canvases during each sitting, perhaps it would be best to bring more than one canvas when I paint at Saluda Shoals. Heaven forbid I may get bored or stifled just working on one. Laugh! You see, I really like doing a lot of paintings at the same time. With the great loopy curved and bent trees I will be in front of I think that will call for at the very least two paintings. Come see me paint on Sunday Oct. 7th at Saluda Shoals Park from 1-4 in Columbia, SC.
*
Have a great day.... paint your life away...it's a lot of fun!
yours;
Jeanee
