Art Festival Finlay Park July 2 Booths Available

Applications are now being accepted for vendors for the Independence Day Weekend Arts & Crafts Festival. The event will be held Saturday, July 2^nd at Finlay Park Columbia, SC starting at 1pm. The fair coincides with the Summer Concert Series in the park, and vendors are welcome to stay through the concert and fireworks (approximate ending time 10:15pm); booths must stay open until 6pm.

Only hand crafted items may be sold at the festival. No resell/flea market items will be allowed. You may not have raffles at your booth spaces. You may not “save” booth spaces for other vendors that will arrive after you. We reserve the right to disallow sales for violators of these rules.

A special parking area will be provided for all vendor vehicles, close to the booth area. Booth spaces are available on a first come first serve basis; we recommend that all vendors arrive by 10:00 am to setup for festivities to begin at 1:00 pm. Spaces will be marked off for you and someone will come by your booth to check in with you if you should need further assistance. There will be a loading and unloading area. The park and loading/unloading areas will need to be cleared by 12:00 noon. After 12:00 pm we will not be able to facilitate you with an area to unload.

Please note that electricity is very limited. Commercial generators are allowed, but must be diesel fueled (no personal gas generators, per Columbia Fire Dept. regulations) If you have further questions and would like a vendor form, please contact Joan Sorensen at (803) 545-3091 or jmsorensen@columbiasc.net

Booth space is 10’ x 10’. Vendors are responsible for providing their own tables, tent, and other supplies. Booths must be kept clean and orderly throughout the event. • $20.00 fee for single space. • Electrical access is an additional $20.00 fee and is very limited. Vendors are responsible for bringing their own extension cords and electrical access will be provided on first come, first serve basis.

Setup begins at 9:00 am on the day of the event. Selection of booth space is on first come, first serve basis that morning. Items should be unloaded and vehicles moved out of the area as quickly as possible. All vehicles MUST be moved out of the area by 12:00 pm – No Exceptions.

•• Cancellation Policy: Any Vendor who does not show for the event will lose their fee and their space will be released.

It's All About Faith

– The art show features portraits, paintings and sculpture by Barbie and Faith Mathis and 20 other well known Columbia area artists. “The Faith Paintings” are a series by Barbie Mathis that celebrate the individuality and creativity of Faith Mathis, an emerging artist who dares to be herself. The show is at Vista Studios/Gallery 80808, 808 Lady Street, Columbia, SC 29201 – Thurs. 5/26 through Mon. 5/31 - Opening Reception 6 - 9 pm on Thurs. 5/26

Faith Mathis, a featured artist and subject of the show, has attended summer programs at the Governor’s School for the Arts, and at Tri-DAC hosted by Columbia College, where she has been offered an art scholarship to become a studio arts major. Faith's works include pen and ink on paper with markers or watercolors, mixed media paintings, and a series of sculptures called “My Life in Dolls.” Additionally, she created a life-size sculpture, cast from her own body, which functions as an IPOD speaker. Never one to stifle her opinions, Faith is a vocal advocate for arts education in public schools where she hopes to teach art some day.

Barbie Mathis has been working as a professional artist since 1980. Starting as an illustrator and designer, then becoming an acclaimed watercolorist, with an emphasis on natural subject matters and people immersed in rich, dramatic backgrounds. Barbie is a signature member of the South Carolina Watermedia Society. “How Long Must I Wait” was the first piece of “the Faith Series”, and it was included in the 2009 traveling show for SCWS. Barbie has also exhibited in numerous shows around the state, winning various awards including 1st Place at the Trenholm Artists Guild Show in March, 2011. at www.BarbieMathis.com,www.BarbieMathisStudio.blogspot.com,www.BarbieMathisStudio.Etsy.com . The unique nature of this exhibition is summed up in its title:"It’s all about Faith". Faith Mathis is featured as model and as an artist in her own right. Gallery hours are weekdays 11 am – 3 pm, Sunday 1 – 4 pm. Barbie Mathis will be on hand those days to meet the public. An opening reception, with many of the featured artists including Barbie and Faith, will be held Thursday evening, 5/26, from 6 to 9 PM at the gallery.

Inspired by Coffee"

The library will host artist Jean Bourque and her unique artwork on display on the lower level rotunda. The show will feature all NEW works by the artist. Most of the artworks are 30x20 with a few smaller ones and a few larger ones. They are all for sale. The title of the show is "Inspired by Coffee".

Bourque says this show is all about Coffee. Many of the pieces were inspired by that first morning cup and in most of them coffee has actually been used as a medium for marking the canvas. The coffee filters were dropped on , left to dry and made various stains in some and in others hot black coffee was dripped, stained, left to sit on the actual canvas, and or allowed to drip dry or sun dry.

Coffee in full caffeinated versions and the bolder the better are a true requirement while working on my many assemblages in the artistic world. It is my hope that the viewers will relate to the coffee experience and delight in the wonders of coffee as I have enjoyed producing this work and with that said...I am off to have another cup of Coffee.

The library show will start Oct. 12th and run through Dec. 2nd.
