The Arts & Culture Alliance’s National Juried Exhibition was developed to provide a forum for artists to compete on a national scale and display their work. Neely is currently serving as the 2011 instructor and visiting artist for the AVA Reel Stories Documentary Project, teaching video classes and workshops, working as a commercial photographer in Chattanooga and exhibiting her fine art photography around the region.

Awards

At least $1,000 in cash awards will be given as designated by the juror, whose decision is final.

Sales & Commission

Every effort is made to promote sales. All exhibited work must be for sale. All sales are handled by the Arts & Culture Alliance. The Alliance assumes that sales tax is included in the price of every piece of artwork. The Artist is responsible for remitting applicable sales tax to the state of Tennessee Sales and Use Tax Department (www.tn.gov/revenue/tntaxes/salesanduse.htm). Sales are permitted as a service to patrons of the Alliance. However, the Alliance cannot guarantee such sales. The receipt of funds from sales, the retention of commissions, and the disbursement of monies to the Artist will be handled by the Alliance. Sold works are to remain in the exhibition until its official closing date and time, unless an alternate arrangement can be reached that is mutually agreeable to the Alliance, the Artist, and the purchaser of the artwork.

Commission to be donated to the Arts & Culture Alliance is as follows:

+ Arts & Culture Alliance members: 25% (20% for cash and check sales).

+ Non-members: 45% (40% for cash and check sales).

Membership information is available at www.knoxalliance.com/join.html.

Artists Wanted Show at Edward Hopper House NY

CALL FOR ARTISTS

A 40th Anniversary “Year of Edward Hopper” Presentation

Small Matters of Great Importance: Interior/Exterior
Exhibition Dates: September 22 – November 13, 2011

Edward Hopper House Art Center welcomes applicants to its 18th annual Small Matters of Great Importance national juried exhibition, held in two gallery rooms of Edward Hopper’s birthplace and childhood home. The exhibition celebrates small works that make big statements despite their size.

Jurors: Avis Berman & Elizabeth Thompson Colleary
Art historian Avis Berman is the author of “Edward Hopper’s New York” and many other books and articles on American art. She wrote the catalogue essay for Edward Hopper, Prelude: The Nyack Years at Edward Hopper House. Elizabeth Thompson Colleary is a Hopper Scholar and Curator of Edward Hopper, Prelude: The Nyack Years and is currently writing books on Josephine Nivison Hopper and the Hoppers’ two-artist marriage.

Eligibility: Open to all artists 18 and over and all media, including drawing, painting, photography, prints, mixed media, collage, computer art, video, wall relief, and sculpture. Artwork must not exceed 12” x 12” (or 144” square inches) including frame. All work submitted must have been executed within the past two years and not previously shown at Hopper House.

Judging Criteria: In celebration of our 40th Anniversary “Year of Edward Hopper,” the theme for this year’s Small Matters show is “Interior/Exterior.” That interplay is frequently represented in Hopper’s art, whether it is physical spaces or psychological states. As Hopper said “Great art is the outward expression of an inner life in the artist, and this inner life will result in his personal vision of the world.” We are looking for work that explores the interior/exterior relationship in an original way, through whatever means of expression you find relevant.

Selections will be made per artist (rather than individual works of art); so all entries should be cohesive and express a discernable creative sensibility specific to that artist. Selections will be made based on interpretation of theme, technique, and originality.

Submissions: Each artist should submit at least three but no more than five entries. Only online entries submitted through www.onlinejuriedshows.com will be accepted. The submission deadline is August 8, 2011.

Please click on Image Prep in the navigation menu to review how to properly size your images. Your images should be 1920pixels @72dpi on the longest side. It should be a JPEG.

Call Erich Neubert of Online Juried Shows at 949-287-8645 if you need help with the submission process. Artists will be notified of their status via e-mail. Please addinfo@OnlineJuriedShows.com to your Safe Senders List to ensure email notification.

Fees and payment: A non-refundable fee is due upon submission. For Hopper House members: $30 for first THREE entries, $4.00 for each additional entry (maximum five entries total). Non-members: $35.00 for first THREE entries; $5.00 for each additional entry (up to five entries total).

Awards: $500 Award for Excellence plus additional cash and other prizes to be awarded.

Publicity: Entry into this exhibition constitutes artist’s permission to reproduce work for publicity purposes, both in print and digital form.

Liability and Sales: Hopper House will observe every care and precaution, but cannot be responsible for loss or damage of accepted artworks. Accepted artists must contract with Hopper House agreeing to exhibition terms including, but not limited to, installation schedule and liability waiver. Executive Director reserves the right to reject work not satisfactorily represented by the images submitted, not properly framed, or artwork that arrives in a condition not suitable for hanging. Artists are responsible for shipping or delivery. Detailed instructions will be provided after notification. Edward Hopper House shall receive 35% commission on any art sold from the premises.

Calendar:
Submission deadline: August 8, 2011
Notification to artists: August 15, 2011
Delivery of work: September 18, 3-5 pm & September 19, 10 am - 5 pm
Opening reception: September 24, 5-7 pm
Work pickup: November 13, 3-5 pm & November 14, 12-5 pm
