National Call to Artists, Show Knoxville, TN

The Arts & Culture Alliance National Juried Exhibition of 2011
December 12, 2011 – January 27, 2012

The Arts & Culture Alliance’s National Juried Exhibition was developed to provide a forum for artists to compete on a national scale and display their work. Approximately 40-50 traditional and non-traditional works will comprise the exhibition in the main gallery of the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville. The Emporium is free and open to the public Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Please note: The Emporium will be closed December 26-30 for the holidays.

Juror

Holding both a Bachelor and a Master of Fine Arts degree in media art from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Neely Hyde's professional arts background includes working for art galleries and magazines in New York City, teaching film and art appreciation UT and Roane State and working as the Director of Exhibits and Media Arts for the Association for Visual Arts. Neely is currently serving as the 2011 instructor and visiting artist for the AVA Reel Stories Documentary Project, teaching video classes and workshops, working as a commercial photographer in Chattanooga and exhibiting her fine art photography around the region.

Awards

At least $1,000 in cash awards will be given as designated by the juror, whose decision is final.

Sales & Commission

Every effort is made to promote sales. All exhibited work must be for sale. All sales are handled by the Arts & Culture Alliance. The Alliance assumes that sales tax is included in the price of every piece of artwork. The Artist is responsible for remitting applicable sales tax to the state of Tennessee Sales and Use Tax Department (www.tn.gov/revenue/tntaxes/salesanduse.htm). Sales are permitted as a service to patrons of the Alliance. However, the Alliance cannot guarantee such sales. The receipt of funds from sales, the retention of commissions, and the disbursement of monies to the Artist will be handled by the Alliance. Sold works are to remain in the exhibition until its official closing date and time, unless an alternate arrangement can be reached that is mutually agreeable to the Alliance, the Artist, and the purchaser of the artwork.

Commission to be donated to the Arts & Culture Alliance is as follows:

+ Arts & Culture Alliance members: 25% (20% for cash and check sales).

+ Non-members: 45% (40% for cash and check sales).

Membership information is available at www.knoxalliance.com/join.html.

Eligibility

Works may not have previously exhibited in any Alliance exhibition at the Emporium Center or in any Alliance satellite gallery. Entries must be original works completed within the last two years in the following categories: Painting (oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, digital, and mixed media); Graphic Arts (pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, conte, colored pencil, and printmaking); 3-D (sculpture, ceramic, and fibers); and Photography (color, black and white, digital). The maximum allowed size is 120” x 120” in any direction including frame or stand (must fit through a 60” x 120” doorway). Weight is not to exceed 100 lbs. unless special arrangements are made. Works must be suitably framed/mounted and WIRED (to fit over a 5” wide hook) for installation to match the current hanging system (Walker Display). All 3-D works that do not hang on the wall must be under Plexiglas (exceptions will be made with the permission of the Alliance). The juror reserves the right to disqualify any work not suitably presented or that varies from the submitted image.

Entry Procedure

The nonrefundable entry fee is $40 for up to three works ($25 for Arts & Culture Alliance members). Up to three additional entries may be submitted for $7/each ($5 for members). Diptychs and triptychs are considered one work. Works are juried by digital images only. Each 2-D work may be represented by one digital image, and each 3-D work may be represented by up to three separate digital images: two full views and one detail view.

Send digital images as JPG files (no PowerPoint or slideshow formats) at least 1-3 MB in size (or at least 1600 x 1600 pixels) each, on CD (no DVD); or e-mail entries to sc@knoxalliance.com (no more than 5 MB in size to guarantee delivery of e-mail). If possible, please identify image with artist last name (example: Lastname_Title.jpg). Application form may be faxed to 865-523-7312; entry fees may be paid by check to “Arts & Culture Alliance” or via Visa or Mastercard (5% fee applies) by calling the Alliance at 865-523-7543. CDs will not be returned. Entries must be postmarked by Saturday, October 29, 2011.

Shipment and Delivery

Shipping artwork to and from the exhibit is the responsibility of the artist. All shipped work must be prepaid. A check for return shipping must be received in an amount based on the stated insurance value of the piece. (Please consider that shipping costs increase over time and the return shipping may be more expensive after the duration of the exhibition than the initial shipping cost). Artist may use his/her own shipping company preference and is responsible for scheduling delivery and pick up of work. Works must be shipped in very sturdy cardboard boxes or crates. Up to $50 will be charged for replacement crates and boxes not safe enough to return works. Please be sure to include detailed packing instructions along with shipped pieces. Works must be labeled with title and artist’s name. Late or damaged work is not accepted.
