February 17 Program

Guest Speaker: Lee Monts

Lee is a Christian artist who primarily creates contemporary acrylic paintings on canvas, paper and board. His formal education is in geology. He has been a resident of Columbia, South Carolina, since 1987 and is employed full time by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. Lee began painting in 2002 and has had no formal art training. He has shown extensively in South Carolina since 2003. “Testimony”, the artist’s premier solo show, was on exhibit July 23 – August 21, 2009 at the Gallery at DuPre in Columbia, SC. A feature article by nationally known writer Cynthia Boiter entitled, “Artist come lately…” appeared in the January 2010 issue of Lake Murray Magazine and Northeast Columbia Magazines. The artist was selected as one of six artists for Street Gallery III, a rotating billboard project in 2010 sponsored by the Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington Counties and Lamar Advertising. Monts also received the “In Memory of Lena Massara” Award in 2010 for his entry in the 33rd Annual South Carolina Watermedia Society Show. Monts will be featured, along with nine other selected artists, in a limited edition Capital City Art Book in Spring 2011. He is currently represented by Verve Fine Interiors and the Gallery at DuPre, both in Columbia, South Carolina and by Michael Mitchell Gallery in Charleston, South Carolina. The artist’s work can also be seen at www.323art.blogspot.com.

Lee Monts will give critiques of member's unframed works. Anyone who wishes to have a particular piece critiqued may bring one piece to the meeting February 17th. It should be unframed with mat board or foam core backing to hold it upright on the easel. This could be a painting in progress as well as a finished painting.

start back up this Thursday Sept. 16th.

The meetings are held every third Thursday of the month at the Seven Oaks Recreation Center at 630PM. June Tucarella is current President of the Art League. As some of you may know I was a former President of this art league. I really like this league as the people are real friendly and its in a nice location. The meetings are open to all artists and offer a monthly program with a speaker every month. They now have a website and offer educational and showing opportunities for the members. You may go as a guest for your first meeting to see if you enjoy it and want to join the group.

Seven Oaks Fab Fakes 6:30 PM Wed Dec 19th

Seven Oaks Art League is open to all artists and art supporters. SOAL typically meets on the third Thurs of the month. For this month, it was decided it would be on a Wed. Dec. 19, at 6:30PM. Can't wait to see everybody!

We are having a "Fabulous Fakes" competition. Have you ever painted a copy of a famous artwork? If so then you have a fab fake.
* Bring it with you to the meeting. We will have prizes for the best. Your work doesn't have to be framed. If you have a copy of the original artwork to show the group along with your 'fake' that would be great to bring it along.

Seven Oaks Art League Meeting Wed. Nov. 14th

Seven Oaks Art League will be meeting on Wed. Nov. 14th. The speaker for the month is David Yaghijian of 80808. David and his family have a long history of being involved in the SC art scene. It will be an interesting show and a great opportunity to meet this very well known and successful artist. The meeting begins promptly at 7 PM. We ask that members arrive by 6:30 so they have an opportunity to meet their friends and socialize at the meeting before our guest speaker begins.
