Music Festivals showing Art April 17 to June 14

What festivals can you see the artist paint at? What festivals can u see the artists art work, music work, woman in art, prints, paintings....???

The New Music Series along with pieces from the watercolor woman series, the love series, masks series and and the coffee inspired art will be showing at the Riverwalk Music Festivals and Rythme on the River in West Columbia most every Sat. from April 17 to June 6th, 2010. Then they will be shown at the Indiegrrls Music festival the entire June 12-14th weekend at Camp Jonica Gap in the GA Mountains.

The work of Jean Bourque, features theme related art in an abstraction mixed media method often using collage and assemblage as well as found objects as part of the work. The artist works with fabrics, photography, various mediums to create a unique interpolated style. People in the art may bear a slight resemblance to someone you know but it is not the artists intent to do portraiture. They are many fine portrait artists. Jean prefers to just paint whatever the spirit leads her to paint therefore the people in the art are often conceptual images based totally out of the mind.

Howard Hunt from the Artists Round Table and Scott Hunter of Palmetto Interiors and Design are pleased to announce The Artists Happy Hour and Social at 1213 Lincoln St.
in the Vista Columbia, SC.
The idea offers artists a chance to visit with each other and get to socialize.
We could brainstorm about the meaning of something or talk about ways we use the internet in our art. We could share opportunities and discover more about the different people in our group while relaxing with a bottled water, a Starbucks or with the BYOB of wine, you brought. It sure sounds like a great way to get out of the studio and off the computer for a new art fun night.
*
They are hoping to do this on a regular basis. They really want you to come out there.
I think it sounds like a great idea, but I can't make this one, perhaps you can and tell me how it goes. Send HH an email to let him know if you like the idea, BUT cannot make it to this particular one which is on extremely short notice. That way they will try it more than one time.

Have Fun!

Painting Day & Night & November Art Shows

Paintings in Progress: on the left the larger painting was done by Jean Bourque. On the right the smaller painting was done by Allan Hobbs.

Today, a group of us were painting with Ilona Royce Smithken at Sandra Phaup's house. It was our typical group of artists painting together with the addition of Cristy Aitken. Someone brought a copy of "The Star" newspaper and Ilona was on the cover in full color. What a great article it was. The article continues on page 3 with a photo of Denby one of our regular painters. There is a small group of us working on the portrait of Jean Ehler and another small group working on flowers and Cristy Aitken worked on multiple apples. My painting is coming along nicely. I have lots of great new works that have never been seen as I have painted a lot. I have three shows coming up for November. The Vista Show will have all new works within the last two years on museum quality canvas. In the 5 points area, Jean Bourque will have a solo show for the month of November featuring all new 2007 art in brightly colored works on regular canvases with painted sides and the NE Show will be a variety of framed works from the last ten years. As soon as I have all the details on the three shows, I will post them. Please sign up to subscribe. Stay in the know on all the art events happening in Columbia, SC and the surrounding areas.

Intellectual Pursuits and a Passion for Art

My regular readers probably realize that I am on the web way too much, but they forgive me as I do provide interesting sites from time to time. On occasion, I look at art sites like I have all the time in the world. It is one of my many intellectual pursuits. My art is an intellectual pursuit as well; but it's not just that; it is so much more. I have this fire; this drive; I cannot "not" paint. I dream of paintings, I visualize paintings, I think in paintings, why I even write in paintings! When you read, what I write can you see the paintings? I mean; like in your mind's eye, even if they are not shown on the blog?

A few posts back; I shared the painting Yellow Brickroad and then went on to write about some of the paintings I am showing at The Starving Artist Cafe in West Columbia, SC. In my story I wrote little essays on several of the paintings and hoped to give you a glimpse inside the creation process for those works of art. So many things are going on at all times and to be totally focused on a painting while creating something that has never existed in the world is really an act of passion. Whereas web surfing and researching for this artist, are like the kindling to the fire... like reading or listening to music...the kindling to the fire. These are intellectual pursuits; which I do for the inspiration of the passion fueling the artist within me.
Some kindling to think about; read this "Seven Levels of Artists" by Rockwell. Although; he made this up and it does have a touch of humor; a lot of what he says makes great sense...read it and see.

yours truly;
Jeanee
