Call for Artists for Fall 2011

Rosewood Art Festival Call for Entries
Trenholm Artists Guild (TAG) announces a call to artists for a one-day outdoor art festival, October 22, 2011, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM at Rockaway’s, 2719 Rosewood Drive, Columbia. TAG is seeking artists to display their original fine art. The goal is to include various media: ceramics, glass, fiber arts, jewelry, painting, photography, sculpture, woodwork, furniture, and printmaking.

Approximately 50 spaces will be allocated at the discretion of TAG. Artists may collaborate as a team for space. The TAG Board will view applicants to select the exhibitors.
Art must be original, handcrafted work produced by the artist and may not be the result of work from commercial kits, molds, patters, or plans. The work exhibited must match the quality and style as represented by the examples submitted. Limited editions, signed and numbered on the front of each piece, must be clearly marked as a reproduction.

The Festival will also include venues for low-key performing art presentations such as music, dance, and drama.

The display areas will be approximately 10 x 12 in the parking lot adjacent to Rockaway’s at the corner of Rosewood Drive and Howard Street. Artists must provide their own racks, tables, chairs, display units, coverings, or other fixtures suitable for outdoor use. Electricity is not available.
TAG will solicit for purchase awards and sponsors and expects to award Best in Show and People’s Choice.
To enter submit by August 15, 2011:
1) 3-5 images representative of your work via e-mail to reshleman@sc.rr.com or mail CD to: Renea Eshleman, 508 Moss Creek Drive, Cayce, SC 29033. Include with your images your name and contact information.

2) Mail $10 entry fee payable to TAG. There will be no charge for the display space.
Submission of your work is your certification that the work represented is original and hand-crafted; that you hold harmless TAG, the City of Columbia, County of Richland, all sponsoring and participating organizations, their directors, officers, employees, agents, and volunteers from any responsibility, personal liability, claims, loss or damage arising out of or in conjunction with your participation in the Rosewood Art Festival.
TAG will notify you by September 15 of acceptance.

Contact David Phillip796.3352 dkphillipsstudio@aol.com or Renea Eshleman 767.5505 reshleman@sc.rr.com.

The Art Newspaper online story about Art.sy

Found this fascinating article I wanted to share with fellow artists. The writer has stated this may be the "Holy Grail of Private Market Prices"... Written by Charlotte Burns in The Art Newspaper this month June 2011. Art.sy has some big galleries and other high profile backers, which I believe will make it a successful venture. It's important to be "in the know" especially if more galleries and online sites follow this new marketing model for art. Here is the link to the story.

Loose Lucy's Drop Off for Fire Victim's

Many of you know The DUBA band. Mary Link Womble the bassist and vocalist for the band has a daughter with three small children ages 4, 3 and infant. Last night, their home burned down and they have lost everything. The little baby doesnt even have any bottles. They could use anything you can donate household goods, furniture, food, baby things, diapers, formula and clothes.

Her daughter wears a size 7-8 and the man wears mediums and size 30-32; all the children are girls under 5, so any baby and infant items plus clothes from infant to size 5T, would be greatly appreciated.

Jenn McCallister of Loose Lucy's in Five Points has offered a drop off point at the store. Please help in any way you can. Giving thanks that the family is all okay and that no one was hurt.

Artist Studio Space for rent in Columbia SC

Sent by Chappy Manning of TAG

I've been advised of an opportunity to lease some studio space on Carlisle St. (cut-through between Daly and Millwood, behind Mad Platter), and in order to keep the costs $200 range (includes utilities) we need some more artists interested in sharing the space. Would you be able to send out an email to TAG members asking if anyone is interested? There are 2 options, one space smaller than the other, the smaller one has 1 bathroom & 2 large rooms so we're looking for 4 artists to share, the larger space has several different rooms & 2 baths and could hold 6-7 artists' spaces.

Please contact me directly at cmanning13@sc.rr.com. So far, there are 2 of us who are willing to commit, but as I say, we need more to make it affordable.
