Sunday April 20th we are hosting an art reception in honor of Ilona Royce Smithken and her visit to Columbia SC to teach her famous impressionistic oil painting techniques and all the artists will be there with work on display. Yes, it is a Sunday but it is in mid afternoon and will run from 3-5 PM. Come out and meet and greet the artists in our studios and meet the famous Ilona! FYI: Ilona was the star of "Painting with Ilona" and "Ilona's Palette" which ran on SCETV back a few years ago. Cme out and meet her; darlings... Smile!

May 3rd 10 am to 6 PM and May 4 noon to six pm Open Studios Tour

YES back Porch Studios have been added with several featured artists to the Columbia SC Open Studio Tour. Artists will include Christy Aitken, Sandra Phaup, Jean Bourque. Jean Ehler, Allan Hobbs, Paul Moore, and Kevin Smith! In addition to the artists that are officially on the Open Studio Tour there will be other artists that create art and are part of our group as well. So come on out and see the work. Many of our painters paint in impressionism (obviously) because we have all studied with Ilona at least in four or more sessions.

The featured artists all have multiple talents Christy and Jean Ehler both paint realistically as well as impressionistic. Jean Ehler also does drawings and is a quick portrait sketch artist as well.

Jean Bourque is best known for her abstract art, funky flowers and mixed media fiber arts and assemblages. She creates in multiple media and is a writer as well as an artist. Sandra Phaup has studied with Ilona for nearly 20 years and is a very talented painter. In addition to that she is a photographer with a keen eye to capturing an interesting take on her subjects. Allan Hobbs is a naturally gifted artist with a true talent for portraits. Paul Moore and Kevin Smith are very talented potters and sculptors, creating in clay with the wheel and freehand.

Want to learn to paint in oils with Ilona? We still have a few spots open for the morning classes. They will run M-F April 21-25 from 10 AM to 1 PM with a snack break. The full week is $150.

The classes will also run April 28-May 2, 2008 from 10 AM to 1 PM!!!
