First Thursdays on Main St. at S & S Art Supply

First Thursdays at S & S Art Supply Main St. Columbia, SC
is held the first Thursday of every month in conjunction with other Main St merchants as part of a monthly event to highlight the arts in Columbia and to give people an opportunity to see the art and business communities working together every month on Main St. Columbia, SC.

In Sept. 2010, at First Thursday in front of S & S Art Supply, I demonstrated painting with Montana Gold paints and Golden Acrylics to live music by three different musical acts: Keith Bates of REDD WYNE, the late Frank Whaley and the Jeff Bloom Band. I painted three paintings to the music and had a great time.

Note: one of the paintings is pictured above. You can hear music by Redd Wyne, if you click here.

Please show your support for our local art supply store on Main St. by attending the First Thursday evening 6-9Pm every month. Each month they feature a different show. Here is what they have scheduled so far for upcoming artists:

Going to Lady Gaga Tonight in Charlotte! Woohoo!

I feel like a pre-adolescent kid...all excited as if I am going to my first concert. Lady Gaga came on the scene a few years ago and the world quickly took notice. It seems from what I can tell there are strong feelings about her one way and another. My friends, who BTW are mostly artists and MUSICIANS... really love her, like I do...or they hate her. I just don't get the hating stuff. Some say she is a Madonna wanna be...I don't think so ...this woman is a classically trained pianist...which is more preparation than Madonna had musically. Madonna was a trained dancer, not a singer and so to me...there is no comparison. Her showmanship is more like Cher, it's over the top, and I am so excited to go see :)

NOW, those of you that know me, know I have almost every Madonna CD up until about 2005 when I started listening to a wider variety of music. As much as I have listened to Madonna and probably know all the words to all the songs from the 90's... I never went to a Madonna concert. However, I have been to three Cher concerts and a multitude of other concerts in the past ten years. With Lady Gaga from the first time I saw her, I couldn't wait to go see her in concert! In fact, for this concert tonight, I discovered the show was coming in like Jan or Feb... and as soon as tickets were being sold... I contacted my friends from Charlotte to see if they wanted to go and YES we all decided to go and the plans were set. It seems like we have waited forever, having tix so far in advance and now the show is going to be tonight. Oh MY God...what to wear? LOL!

Some people probably do not know this, but there were tickets selling for as high as $800.! Mine was high enough...even being almost in the nose bleed section...we should have a good views from the angle we are at and of course there are teleprompters..no chance of getting a close up pic. This woman is an extremely talented woman; gifted singer pianist, dancer, organizer, marketeer, fashion icon, songwriter...and so much more..she is a show. She doesn't just stand in front of a mic and sing (which in itself, is hard enough) she creates a show...you will never forget and I can not wait to be part of the big MONSTER BALL!!! (and all you haters can just shut up, LOL!)

Me and my poker face...gonna have a good time to night....

yours truly,
Jeanee

July 4th weekend inspired painting

The month started out with my new music and art video being sent to a couple venues for future possibilities. July 4th weekend; I heard Josh Roberts and Leslie Branham for the first time at Martini Bar, playing mostly originals and a few covers with a flair. The next night was Marv Ward playing the blues at Smoke. Marv and I are going to work together so I paint to his playing. We are thinking Sept 11th at Millwood Cafe.

Then late one night I stopped in at the Hookah Bar to catch The Dubber and several friends playing world international music. All this music led to being deeply inspired and the weekend ended with me painting with another artist while listening to the blues. Then I brought that painting to hear Redd Wyne band practice and finished up the painting. This is that painting! It's a 24x18 and it needs a name.

Painting to the Music

This video was filmed outdoors and much to our surprise while I painted and Keith Bates played guitar and sang, the birds joined in and made it a three part harmony! Filmed by Angel Prosser, edited by Jean Bourque and Keith Bates. Song written by Keith Bates of REDD WYNE is titled "Charm" thus the name of the video and the painting. It is a 20x16 with staple free sides.

Here's the video:

We do have one minute of still shots first and then the video starts.
