Painting at Utopia with The Dubber in Columbia, SC

Utopia....
One of my favorite things to do is painting to music... and the opportunity to paint to LIVE music is such a treat . I have been very blessed lately to paint on a regular basis with a multitude of musicians performing live. Here I am at Utopia.. and I am painting at the CD Release party of "Global Warning" performed by The Dubber.
The Dubber...
Some of you know, I have been following The Dubber's music since I first heard him back a few years ago at H20 on State St in West Columbia. I remember seeing this giant of a man with dread locks and muscular arms and noticing he wore a turban. Having no idea what his music would be I sat there with artist friend Michelle Rogers and this man sat down and closed his eyes and started playing; the lively crowd silenced as we all sat in awe listening to the gentle voice and unique music from the guitar played by Wendell Culbreath. It was at that moment, I literally was under the spell of the music, just as when I paint...I am so into the painting... I am at one with the painting.
It was probably close to a year before I found out exactly who he was and where else he performed... and this time when I heard him I had a front row seat and introduced myself. I saw he was one with the music like I had felt ... so many times when I paint. We exchanged cards and I wrote to him telling him how I noticed all these things and from then on I went to as many shows as I can. In fact for a while I went to every one. I still try to, but my time is divided by my own art interests and other music as well. Watch this blog for more info on The Dubber!

Art and Music Networking the Scene

Well hello to all my readers new and long termers....

I haven't been here much and some of you have a pretty good idea, why. Basically, I have really been working the art and music networking scene the past year and now I am so entrenched with so many friends and events to attend that its like I can no longer attend every event I would like to, because many evenings there are several events happening with friends performing or showing their art and or music. So... I now have to say no sometimes. It literally kills me to miss some of my fave musicians performing; or my art buddies that are having shows I end up missing for one reason or another. Often times how I end up selecting where to go will depend on whats happening in my art career first. Then secondly, what events my friends have chosen to attend... I love hanging out much better than going solo. As ya'll know I was solo for many years and I am so over that. LOL!

Like, right now I am showing 8 paintings at White Mule on Main St. in Columbia, SC. You could say its the blues... and it's influence in music and my art as all eight have some blue in them. Lots of light blues and a few cobalts and ultramarines thrown in for good measure. Of Course many pieces also have heart and soul...as that is what my art is actually about... well, for the most part. They will be on display there for 3 months, so take a peek and if you are interested in any of them, just let me know. I will be at White Mule, for at least a few hours on the ... first Thursday, June 3rd.

Windows on the Vista in the Rain

Many of the paintings by Jean Bourque have obscure themes. But then many have realistic themes and are grounded in reality. Take "Windows" for example. The concept of windows has come up many times in my work and I liken the idea to that of Doors. No, they are not the same thing , but in each I have some thing that is not the object as in a Window or Door that I also think of as windows. My example here should be obvious to any PC user. LOL!
Windows.... I have sold all the windows I have done to date, including Windows 98 and Windows 2000. This one is still available. It is a museum quality canvas with over a one inch thick mount and is 30 inches by 24 inches. I think of it as Windows on the Vista in the Rain.

Blogs Help Business In Search Engines

A BLOG CAN REALLY HELP YOU!

Have you noticed, a lot of companies, not only have a website but they also have a blog or in some cases a multitude of blogs? Big businesses, do not spend money if there is no return. Many small business owners do not understand the great marketing capacity of a blog. A blog is so much more than a journal. I have heard lots of people say, why do I need a blog when I already have a website? They often go on to say their website isn't making them any money and don't see why they should bother with something as "time consuming" as a blog! I say BINGO, that is exactly why you should have a blog!

Search engines LOVE blogs, maybe not the ones affiliated with some of the personal networking sites, but the true blog sites that are purely for blogging; these get noticed. If you have a website and you get a blog, linking in and out often boosts your rankings, by virtue of creating more visability for your name, brand or company. Blogging increases your links and links are food to the search engines! As far as being time consuming, it really doesn't have to be. You can have a marketing person or writer on your staff cover the content. Or you can out source your blog to someone like myself that would be happy to do it, for you.

Take this ARTSAILS1 site for example, I have been on here about a year and anyone that I have mentioned and linked to has moved up in search engine rankings, within a really short time. If you are a small business owner in the greater Columbia SC area, an artist, a non-profit, a publication, a professional such as an accountant, doctor, lawyer, or a service person; YOU need a blog. Honestly, I cannot remember when I last used the yellow pages. If I am looking for a service professional; I scan the web. Guess who I will see first? I will see the ones with BLOGS before the ones with websites. Test this and you will see what I mean!

Do you read any blogs on a regular basis? If so, you may want to see about advertising on that blog. If you do not want to commit to a blog and have a website you may want to think about running an ad here at ARTSAILS1. I have had a website since the 90's featuring my art. I have sold from my website even though I do not have a shopping site. It has been around a long while, but I totally redesign it every few months, so it will stay fresh and it offers something new on a regular basis.

In the art world, if you are painting and showing regularly you have changes so frequently it would be a job to keep updating your website. Putting updates on a blog is part of creating interest in your work! A blog is like writing an email to the world; it's easy to keep it updated. The fresh content factor is another reason the search engines love blogs! I would be happy to create and maintain a blog for you, teach you or your staff to run it, and build a web presence to make your business be TOPS in the search engines. Email me your idea or goal and we can make this happen for you! I am on a multitude of art websites and have postings on networking sites and my presence is all over the internet! Google me

Thank you!
